BRENDA the Transcendent

Artwork Statement

Mixed media eco-print and painting on cotton jersey

$5,400.00

“Brenda the Transcendent” emerges from the fusion of eco-printing and intuitive image-making, becoming a portrait of a feminine archetype who bridges earth, spirit, and the unseen forces that shape human experience. The work began as an eco-print on cotton jersey, where natural pigments, leaves, and organic impressions formed an atmospheric ground—an unpredictable map of the natural world. From this foundation, the figure of Brenda materialized: serene, centered, and illuminated from within.

Encircled by lunar and solar symbols, Brenda stands as a guardian of inner knowledge. Her closed eyes suggest an inward gaze, a state of meditation in which transformation occurs not through external action but through deep presence. The butterfly at her heart and the subtle animal forms embedded in the composition evoke metamorphosis, intuition, and the merging of earthly life with cosmic rhythms.

The symmetry of her gown—inscribed with interlocking circles reminiscent of sacred geometry—anchors her to universal patterns. In contrast, the faint birds, leaves, and faces drifting through the background hint at the transient, dreamlike qualities of memory and consciousness. Brenda becomes a threshold figure: part earthly body, part celestial being, formed through the collaboration between artist, plant matter, pigment, and chance.

In this work, Rosenthal explores transcendence not as escape, but as integration—the quiet alignment of the natural world, inner vision, and mythic imagination. “Brenda the Transcendent” honors the mysterious ways inspiration arises and reflects the artist’s ongoing inquiry into spirituality, feminine archetypes, and the subtle energies that connect all living things.

About the Artist

Rosenthal paints primarily with acrylics and oils on canvas, often layering in inks, charcoal, spray paint, and found objects. Whether rendering explicit shapes or washes of atmospheric color, her work balances vibrant spontaneity with a contemplative sense of calm—a reflection of her dual experience: the frenetic hum of urban life and the restorative stillness of coastal walks by the Pacific.

She describes the resulting tension in her work as a “new equation”—a dynamic interplay between structured form and intuitive expression. Her palette often leans toward neutral tones, punctuated with bright sparks, inviting the viewer to envision a journey through each piece.

Recently, Rosenthal’s artwork has been recognized and awarded by both the Oceanside Museum of Art and Front Porch Gallery, affirming the impact and resonance of her creative vision within the Southern California art community.

Painting intuitively, she seeks to discover rather than plan the endpoint, trusting in the allure of the unfolding journey.

BRENDA the Transcendent

This painting started life as a fiber art piece dyed in a brew pot of iron and eucalyptus.

What began as a mirror image, materialized into a being formed from plant shapes.

“B R E N D A the Transcendent” represents an emissary of Mother Nature, and seems to be quietly reminding us that existence is truly miraculous.
